It was not as complete as I had hoped, but added satire as I learned how to accept and move on with my life regarding my sexuality.

Sullivan, Jim. “Boyfriend 101: A Gay Guy’s Guide to Dating, Romance and Finding True Love”, Villard, 2003.

    Looking for Mr. Right

    Amos Lassen

Jim Sullivan is a professional counselor and he gives us advice spiced with anecdotes as he directs about finding Mr. Right. He treats us as beginners and starts with small steps such as opening lines. He gives us three pages of the qualities a Mr. Right should have as well as suggested locations for meeting other men. He also tells us what not to say on the first date or even early on. The advice is constructive and he even goes into dating men who are HIV positive and dealing with internalized homophobia as well as topics that can be discussed when looking for a partner.

This is a great book for those that have trouble dating–it has practical suggestions and is good for the new dater or the seasoned butterfly. Many of us fall in love without considering what we are really looking for in a partner and have no idea about how to expand our social network. He even teaches us how to write a personal ad

or computer profile. There is a lot of good information for everyone and all of us can improve our dating skills, At first I thought that Sullivan was a bit pretentious but I soon realized that this was a way of putting wit into the subject. It’s a good book for a quick read and who knows–the reader can really learn something.

I bought this book somewhat out of curiosity and some because of the other reviews. Well I can tell you what it is is a great book to use to both understand what you are doing right in the dating world, but also what you are doing wrong!! I highly recommend it and have already been doing that to my friends.
